Welcome to "Phil's Loco Photos"

A two week trip to Bulgaria and Romania in the heat of August was maybe not the best idea, I flew to Sofia via Frankfurt and made my way to Karlovo for the night. Next day was a trip to Karnobat and back with 46 power followed by a relaxing day in Karlovo area. I then took local train from Karlovo to Sofia via Ilijanci. I left Sofia on the night train to Thessaloniki and no chance of decent MLW power forward from Kulata, then found out that the expected Axios diversion for the trains to Idomeni was not happening as expected. I managed photos of some hired BDZ 07 in the afternoon and stayed in Thessaloniki one night. Next day I went to Strimon for a very long eleven hours but managed quite a few photos during the day. I returned to Thessaloniki and then joined night train to Sofia, could hardly believe my eyes when 07.035 dropped on the front t take the train to Kulata, a massive score, making the trip very worthwhile. I got off the night train at Pernik and then took the 07 turn to Kjustendil and back and then returned to Karlovo. Went to Plovdiv next day for more 07 action and then north towards Varna on the overnight. Changed at Sindel onto old condition winner 07.073 which worked to Dobrich for ex works winner 07.090 forward to Kardam. I returned with a pair to Varna and then to Gorna Orjahovica and the southbound overnight to Podkova. The heat was unbearable so it made it a very long day indeed, eventually I returned to Dimitrovgrad for a hotel. Next day long run to Burgas on a cool train and them back to Karlovo again. After a day of the trains I took an evening train to Mezdra and picked up the night train to Silistra. I covered all the 07 turns and then took boat over the Danube and then train to Efoire Nord via Constanta where I stayed two nights. I then made my way to Caracal and got toasted on the train and was delighted to get off and get cool again. I then returned to Bulgaria and after a day round Sofia returned to Karlovo again. It was then back to Sofia and flight back home via München
