Welcome to "Phil's Loco Photos"

A three week trip to Russia, Estonia and Finland started off with a flight to St Petersburg via Frankfurt, I was actually intending to fly to Helsinki but the flight was overbooked, so I got to Russia quicker and cheaper than I was expecting. Met up with friends and had a few days in the city seeing local sights. I eventually left with Dan on a train to Samara as far as Kovrov where we picked up an elderly TEP10 on a local train to Murom, this was the whole reason for coming to this area. We had two nights in a very basic hotel in Murom and found three TEP10 out on the trains to and from Kovrov. We then headed for Moscow via Vekovka and Cherusti and took the Helsinki overnight to Vyborg and had some M62 action on the trains to Zelenogorsk via Primorsk and then returned to St Petersburg for one night. Next evening I took train to Bologoye and then picked up the night train bound for Tallinn. I had a full day taking photos at Jäneda and Lehtse and then stayed at Rakvere. Back to Lehtse next day for a full day of photos then into Tallinn and the night sailing to Helsinki. I went to Seinäjoki and did the required diesel hauled branch to Vaasa. I ended up at Ylivieska and then to Iisalmi where I took the southbound overnight to Riihimäki and then back to St Petersburg for the night. Early start next day for a steam special heading to Ulan Bator! The train had two P36 and a SU251 during the journey and I returned back from Moscow on one of the many night trains. Another quiet day with friends and then next day the evening train back to Finland, I picked up the Oulu overnight and north to Joensuu. Did the Parikkala - Savonlinna in the afternoon and then back south on overnight for a day in Helsinki area and evening flight to Birmingham via Frankfurt
